Clearing Up Rumours

Posted by Timothy Tiah @ Nuffnang on Jun 1st, 2007

A wave of allegations have hit Nuffnang lately. If you’ve missed it, read about it at CNet here or even on one of our Nuffnanger’s blog here.

As a result of this latest controversy, we’ve been receiving an alarming number of e-mails from Nuffnangers asking us to verify a number of points made which is where we hope this announcement will clear up a lot of doubts.

Geolocation Targeting

Certain parties have claimed that Nuffnang does not have geolocation targeting for its advertisers. Well we do and to be honest we don’t shout about it because Geolocation Technology is not as sophisticated as it is played up to be. It’s very simple, you have a database which has a record where each IP address corresponds to a certain region or country. The accuracy of your targeting is dependent on how regularly updated and credible your database is. Ours is from a specialist company IP2Location.com that is updated regularly and is so sharp that we can even track the longtitude and latitude of each IP address.

Accepting Bloggers Below 20 Unique Visitors a Day

When we first started off, we required that bloggers have at least 20 unique visitors each day since we believe that is the very minimum in which we can use to serve paid ads to your blogs. In spite of that, many bloggers have e-mailed us about not meeting the requirements and our answer to them is that they are more than welcomed to join but note that we might not be able to serve them paid ads until they reach at least 20 unique visits a day.

Nevertheless, they are still welcomed to participate in our community events just like our Pirates of the Caribbean 3 Screening. A number of bloggers that fall below the minimum requirement attended the screening.

That being said, with our previous announcement of rolling out Cost Per Click and Cost Per Action schemes, we’re beginning to be able to include all blogs in these campaigns though we haven’t made any drastic changes to the so-called rule yet because CPC and CPA campaigns are still in its Beta Stages.

Paid Ads

Nuffnang today serves paid ads to over 1,000 blogs in our community which is impressive but is dwarfed when you take into account that our community has over 2,500 blogs signed up with us. When we serve paid ads, we don’t just rotate ad on your ad unit and pay you for each impression, we pay you for an entire week of ads… and we don’t just pay “Virtual Money” by crediting your Earnings account, we send actual cheques out with the 2nd batch of cheques being sent out to bloggers just a few days ago.

What we have found however is that because our advertisers now only pay for Unique Visits from Malaysian IP Addresses, the earnings for many of our bloggers in previous weeks have reduced greatly. Because of that, expect a number of blogger band revisions in the coming weeks with the first one as soon as next week.

Responses to Blog Entries

To the many bloggers who have written about Nuffnang on their blogs, regardless of whether it’s good or bad, I sincerely apologize for not being able to respond to your entries as quick as we used to. All of us at Nuffnang have been very busy in the past weeks planning the launch of new campaigns that you will see in the coming weeks, not to mention organizing a blogger event that Nuffnangers up in Penang will soon hear about.

If you have any pressing issues or complaints, please feel free to e-mail us at Nuffnang and we will respond to it quickly.  Love us or hate us, we love to hear from you.

As an outsider who is not qualified for either services because I’m in Australia, I must say that you guys have carried yourselves with a lot of class. No petty arguments, no putting down the other party, and just presenting the facts. Which is how it should be.

    Keep up the good work.

I like the way you take your stand and improve what you are doing rather than lashing it out against others who compete against you. I believe nuffnang will be great one day because they realize that they are up to compete against themselves and not against others. And that’s how you’ll improve over time to outdo the others.

    Cheers Nuffnang and fellow Nuffnangers
