Catchy title ain’t it? I bet most of us are familiar with the context but for those who aren’t, you can check out the video below.
Your Grandfather’s Road (YGR) is a groundbreaking film project which aims to produce a road-movie BY the Malaysian public, FOR the Malaysian public, in a way and scale that has never been done before.
The idea is to harness the creativity, thoughts, feelings and aspirations of an entire generation; to open the filmmaking process to film-lovers, amateur storytellers, budding artists, and everyday Malaysians just like you and me.
The producers believe in, and want to work with, local talent, hidden or known.
Story and character ideas will be crowd-sourced through comment streams around thematic posts. A script will be created after two months of the project going live. This script is then given back to the public for design, location, casting, music, art direction and cinematographic ideas. The professional Pit Crew will curate and grow the ideas of the public during this pre-production period.
In the end, the Pit Crew will shoot the people’s movie – Your Grandfather’s Road! and it will be screened in local cinemas.
It’s pretty simple actually. All the producers need of everyone is to visit yourgrandfathersroad.com and share whatever experience you have had regarding the topics shared. For example, were you a troublemaker or some sort like a boy who peed in shoes when you were young? Share tales of mischief here and who knows, your tales might just make it to the big screen!

If you don’t have tales of mischief to tell, why don’t you share your opinions on various issues? What about who would you award a Datukship to if you could do so? Of course among those bestowed this title is a baby-faced songbird who wooed the hearts of a populace, a valiant badminton champion who almost succeeded at beating the Chinese on their own turf and a specialist hip-gyrator whose vigorous thrusting motion whilst belting out Hindi numbers in the Alps (among other scenic locations) remains his singular most outstanding talent (refer picture below). If you have a person in mind, do share it with the good people at Your Grandfather’s Road!

All these and more topics of interest which you can share your opinion, views and experience to help make a truly Malaysian movie. Let’s put all our tales together and bring it to the big screen!
