Blogging: A Sanctuary Of Sorts
Greetings to you Nuffnangers and Nuffnangees!(whichever rocks your boat). The name is Jolene Lai and I’m proud to say that I’ve seen the Malaysian blogosphere grow to be what it has become today and am very happy that I’ve been a part of it for three years and counting now?
My blog(www.jayelleenelial.com) is widely read among my friends and friends of friends and a number of bored strangers who are supposed to be doing their assignments or studying for their exams. Unlike many of my blogging peers, I’ve not reached a level where I have ‘fans’ or even people who recognize me on the streets, but it’s fair to say that I’ve got a healthy readership which is sufficient to keep me flattered on a daily basis.
I go everywhere with my camera thus earning myself the 56k killer title. I have no mercy for your internet connection because there’s so much that I want to share with my friends and readers. I’ve been told that my strength is my honesty, sincerity and self depreciating humour. I mostly blog about the things I do, the people I meet, the places I go, the things I’ve bought or want to buy and the various weird thoughts and opinions in my head, which can be disturbingly different from the minds of others.
Thank god I have inner beauty.
Personally, I believe that the ability to laugh at yourself is very important and I’ve no qualms about showing it on my blog. Therefore, I have no dignity whatsoever left to speak of after blogging for the last four years.
In the real world, I’m a 20 year old 2nd year dental student(very happy about the fact that I’ll graduate at the age of 23, yay yay) who studies in Sungai Petani, Kedah. I’m hundreds and hundreds of kilometers away from my home, Subang Jaya.
It took me awhile to adapt to the sudden serenity which is so very different from the hustle and bustle of the city life that I’ve always known.
Wow! Farmers!
However, after almost two years, I gave in to my predicament and accepted life in the northern region of Malaysia with an open mind.(but will die without the internet and my air conditioner).
Me climbing trees in Penang.
Living in Kedah taught me more about spontaneity and I always try my best to find a reason to be happy here in Kedah.
Being without the company and comfort of your family…
Being away from friends whom you grew up with….
Learning the ropes of long distance relationships takes a lot..
It’s hard to do especially when you’ve got so much back home.
And also the inability to keep in constant touch with the booming blogosphere doesn’t make you feel any better about being so far away from the life that you once enjoyed.
It’s not easy, but I’ve managed. My blog has given me the support and outlet to stay optimistic, wherever I am.
So yeah, that’s basically what my blog is about. About how I try to laugh at myself and how I try to make life bearable away from the familiar.
Here at Nuffnang, Tim and Ming have great things in store for you bloggers so if you’re not already a Nuffnanger(or a Nuffnangee), quickly sign up ya! :)
