Nuffnang Featured Blogger for the month of March 2016
We are pleased to present you Liz, the mastermind behind the entrancing blog; Lizzieasamummy, as our Featured Blogger of the Month. An oil and gas engineer and a mother of two, Liz is also a magician to her sons Aiden and Ian! Liz sets out to make sure that her son’s’ dream parties come to live. Follow her journey in party planning, baking and stories of her daily life on her blog. Enough from us and we shall let Liz tell you more on her journey in blogging herself:
- Hello! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hey everyone! First and foremost, I would like to thank Nuffnang for the golden opportunity of being the Featured Blogger of the Month of March. It is an absolute honour to be recognized for simply sharing my experiences and daily life!
I am Aliza, or better known as Liz. I was born and bred in Kuala Lumpur; born in University Hospital, studied in Bukit Bintang Girls School and graduated in Engineering from University of Malaya. I’ve been married for 10 lovely years to my better half, and together we’ve been blessed with two cheeky boys – Aiden and Ian, the constant subjects of my blogposts.
- How did you start blogging?
I started blogging back in 2009. Back then, I was a young oil and gas engineer who had just returned from an international overseas assignment, and discovered two lines on the pregnancy stick. I was pretty nervous about trading my party shoes in exchange for the decorous title of “Mummy”. Eventually, I proposed the idea of starting a blog to write as a relaxing habit to dear Hubby and he agreed. That was how Lizzieasamummy.blogspot.com was born.
- Okay, we have to ask. What’s the story behind your blog name?
When I created the blog, I always knew I wanted to make my boys (Hubby included!) as the focus of the journal. And truthfully, everyone calls me Liz and no one really calls me Lizzie. But Liz as a Mummy sounded so formal; Lizzie as a Mummy had a nice ring to it (and it rhymes)!
- Was there a turning point in your blogging career?
I naively started this blog just before Aiden was born. Once Aiden came into our lives, blogging became a struggle as I juggled motherhood, my career and my interests – baking and party planning. During this hectic period, I tried to make time to blog and document milestones and memories, but soon I started slacking with writing.
The turning point was three years later when I found myself pregnant again. Wanting to recall my memories in preparation for our new addition in the family, I flicked through my blog but found that most of Aiden’s journey growing up were not penned down and thus, forgotten. Determined not to make the same mistake with Ian, I revived my blog, got in touch with Nuffnang, and here I am!
My blog mainly features my DIY party adventures, as I love planning my sons’ birthday parties and working on themed dessert tables for the occasion. I usually share delicious baking recipes while I’m at it too. To date, my blogpost Aiden’s Disney Cars 2nd Birthday Preparation is still going steady as the most popular post in my blog. However, I am particularly proud of Ian’s 1st Birthday Circus Carnival. If you haven’t read it, do check it out! Apart from that, I also blog about parenting, my travels and occasionally my shopaholic traits!
- What’s your plan for this year?
I am expecting 2016 to be an extremely busy year for me. Career wise, I will be working offshore for about a month, mid-year – so expect a brief period of hiatus then! However, when I return home for my offshore leave, I will probably put on my oven mitts and start baking a storm. Therefore readers can expect numerous blogposts featuring recipes for mouth-watering sweet delicacies then. Other than that, Aiden has requested for a Star Wars birthday party, so I will be donning my DIY hat on the first part of the year, crafting personalized party treats for him and his friends. Last but certainly not least, throughout the year I am looking forward to building my social media presence and embark on new blogging opportunities via the Nuffnang network.
Being Nuffnang’s featured blogger is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, therefore I would like to take the opportunity to thank all my readers who were with me since Aiden was born till now. All of you are an awesome bunch, especially for sticking around even when I wasn’t blogging religiously. As for those who are new to Lizzieasamummy, and you feel that you can relate to my many lives as a working mother, wife and woman, do head over to my blog and say Hello!
